OneMBA Alumnus Campaigns in India

T.J. Singla (OneMBA '04) was featured in a February 8 segment on CNN-IBN. She was campaigning in Amristar, India for her father-in-law, Punjab Finance Minister and Congress Leader Surinder Singla. Thirty-two year old T.J. was born and raised in the United States.

Amritsar: The Singla family has come together from different parts of the globe to fight a formidable rival like BJP's popular Navjyot Singh Sidhu in the electoral battle in Amritsar.

Surinder Singla's NRI son has flown in from his workplace in China along with his kid and wife TJ, who is completely at ease with campaigning. If Sidhu has any problem in Amritsar, it is because of this jet-setting second generation of Singlas.

Not just the son and TJ, even the Antwerp-based diamond cutter NRI son-in-law is chipping in. And TJ is seriously impressed because she had never thought Indian democracy is so rooted.

"The people have really embraced it and I think they appreciate that they have a voice. Atleast here in Amritsar, they are ready to exercise their right," she says.

Of course, the outsider issue is a part of the campaign for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. After all, Sidhu comes from Patiala and Singla from Bhatinda. The voter is sometimes left wondering if he is not extending Amritsar's legendary hospitality a little too far.
