Dr. Steef van de Velde

Dr. Steef van de Velde is a professor of Operations Management & Technology and Chair of the Department of Technology and Innovation of RSM Erasmus University.  Previously he was affiliated with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Twente, the Faculty of Management of the University of Toronto, the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Twente, and the CWI (Center for Mathematics and Computer Science) in Amsterdam. Prof. van de Velde earned his MS degree in Econometrics from Erasmus University Rotterdam (1985) and his Ph.D in Mathematics and Computing Science from Eindhoven University of Technology (1991). Prof. van de Velde is teaching operations, logistics and supply chain management in our undergraduate, graduate, Ph .D and MBA programmes. In addition, he has visiting appointments at IBO, a management development institute in Zeist, The Netherlands; at WSM, the business school of Wageningen Agricultural University; and STOA', a business school in Naples. In addition, he has taught on programmes for such companies as Bacardi-Martini, Cap-Gemini, Chubb, Essent, Hutchinson Port Holding, Jongeneel, Kendrion, Outokumpu, RailPro, SHV Gas. Furthermore, he has consulted on operations and supply chain management issues for such companies as Ahold, Grolsch, Heineken, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam Police Department, and Dutch Railways. In the years 2001-2003, Prof. van de Velde was part-time Program Director with KLICT (Chain networks, Clusters and Information Communication Technology) institute. Before that, he was a part-time senior consultant with Ortec. Prof. van de Velde's research interests include managing commodity organizations, managing product variety in the manufacturing sector, manufacturing strategy, and supply chain management. He has published many scientific papers and he is on the editorial board of various scientific journals.
