Associate Professor of Finance
Hugh Thomas is an associate professor of finance at The Chinese University of Hong Kong . He received his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Alberta , Canada , postgraduate diplomas in Chinese language and history from the Beijing Language and Culture University and Nanjing University , China respectively, an MBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong , and a PhD in international business and finance from the Stern School of Business, New York University. Prior to joining The Chinese University of Hong Kong , he was tenured at McMaster University in Canada . He has consulted to the World Bank and the United Nations and has six years’ experience in investment and commercial banking. He teaches courses in corporate finance, international finance, banking, and planning and financing startups and has written and coauthored several books and many academic articles and case studies. A founding member of the Entrepreneurship Center at CUHK, he directs the annual CUHK Vice Chancellor’s Cup of Student Entrepreneurship and is a major contributor to the annual Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.
