Terrence C. Deas
OneMBA® Class of 2006
Hewlett-Packard
"OneMBA's focus on global strategy, marketing and finance will give me the tools I need to advance." |
Background
- Born in Florence, S.C., attended high school in Asheboro, NC
- Lives in Raleigh, N.C.
- BA in Political Science and Communication Studies, UNC, 1997
- Currently a diversity accounts manager at Hewlett-Packard, providing consultation and direction to senior management and partners to ensure diversity alignment on key decisions
Career Impact
"The OneMBA program has taught me to think as a business manager as opposed to a manager of a business function. I have a better understanding of the economic drivers and challenges that surround my company and how those connect to the work I do. I know the program's focus on strategy, global marketing and corporate finance, along with its international perspective, will give me the tools I need to advance."
Why I chose UNC
- The quality of its faculty and curriculum
- The global focus of the OneMBA
- The location of partner schools
My experience of the OneMBA program at UNC
- "The talent in this program, both in the United States and abroad, is incredible and I feel fortunate and privileged to study alongside some of the world's finest businessmen and women.
- "The program has reaffirmed my belief in the power of teamwork. A person can accomplish infinitely more with the help and support of others. I encourage future students to truly embrace their team members, to use them, lean on them and let them lean on you."
My commute
"I commute from Raleigh once a month by car or plane to the Lansdowne Resort in the Washington, D.C. area, where most of the OneMBA classes are held. During plane rides I reread briefs and review prior class discussions."
Student life
"Given the demands of work and school, life as a student in the program can be difficult at times. Having the support of family and friends - especially their encouragement and understanding - helps get you through the overwhelming or challenging periods."
