OneMBA® Class of 2006
Intel
"The mix of backgrounds and experiences led to insightful observations and questions." |
Background
- Born at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines; lived in Belgium and several U.S. states, now lives in Oregon
- Studied in France between high school and college; in Switzerland for junior year of college
- BS, electrical and computer engineering, double major in French, minor in bio-medical engineering, Carnegie Mellon, 1995
- MS, computer science, Oregon Graduate Institute, 2001
- Co-directs the Marketing, Sales, Support and Delivery (MSSD) team of the Software Solutions Group at Intel
Career Impact
"I pursued an MBA to help shift my career into the business side of the company. The global focus drew me to the OneMBA program, given my prior international experience and a desire to live and work overseas.
"Although Intel is a hardware company, we rely heavily on software to build and influence the computing ecosystem. Previously, I managed a group called Release Engineering and Infrastructure, which provided horizontal engineering services to software product groups. After some turnover, I merged that group with the marketing group, giving me the chance to use my new MBA skills."
Why I chose UNC
- The quality of students and professors
- Its price point compared to similarly ranked schools
- A convenient class schedule and location
- The opportunity to build my international network
My experience of the OneMBA program at UNC
- "The caliber of the class discussions is excellent. The mix of backgrounds and high average length of experience leads to insightful observations and questions.
- "The global teams have worked surprisingly well, despite common challenges created by different time zones and cultural styles. The team has caused me to rethink my interactions at work."
Company sponsorship
I receive full financial support with the understanding that I deliver the same results I did before I entered the program.
My commute
Traveling by plane to Washington, D.C. is convenient from Portland or a job assignment elsewhere. The residential aspect of the once-a-month sessions has bonded the class more closely than if we just met for classes - there is time for social events and impromptu gatherings.
Student life
With a 2-year-old son, a baby on the way and a full workload, I have to allocate my time efficiently. I study after bedtime, during weekend naptimes and when I travel.
